"Family pathology (intergenerational trauma) rolls from generation to generation like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path, until one person in one generation, has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to his ancestors and spares the children that follow.” Terry Real (author)

From the desk of Chaz Wiebe, Psychotherapist, Counselling Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), RPC, MPCC, QCS

Hi, my name is Chaz Wiebe. I look forward to meeting with you as we explore the challenges you face today, along with the strengths you have developed along the way.

My aim is to create a hope-filled therapeutic environment as we work together on the “unfinished business” that may be affecting your personal well-being & your emotional/relational health.

I have worked in mental health since 2002 and am qualified to hold the designations of Counselling Therapist, Registered Professional Counsellor, Master Practitioner of Clinical Counselling and Qualified Clinical Supervisor. I am a member in good standing of the CPCA, and of ACTA (to become the CCTA in fall of 2020).

When asked which modalities or approaches I prefer, I often reply that the correct modality is the one that fits the particular client I am working with, at the time. These may integrate narrative writing, assumption/antidote writing, specialized approaches in trauma therapy, CBT, family of origin processing, talk therapy, and the list goes on. Therapy is fit to the individual needs of each client, “homework” is always optional, and clients are welcome to work with me at a frequency that fits within their current schedule.

As you may be aware, there are a great many accomplished therapists in our local area and an additional armload of therapists to choose from online. It is my honor to work with individuals, couples, and teens who are facing a variety of life challenges.

Some of these challenges may include:

• trauma therapy & recovery

• religious trauma

• depression in it’s many forms

• anxiety in it’s many forms including GAD, social anxiety, test anxiety

• OCD behaviors,

• anger management and the underlying causes,

• postpartum adjustment & depression,

• performance orientation,

• boundaries - when to say yes & how to say no,

• shame-based & defensive personality disorders,

• physical/verbal/sexual abuse recovery & support,

• grief recovery & support,

• miscarriage & infertility support,

• meta-emotion awareness & emotion coaching,

• eating disorders & disordered eating patterns,

• 2SLGBTQQIA support,

• patterns of addiction,

• divorce recovery,

In my work with couples I also use the Gottman Method as we work to decrease and eliminate the 4 characteristics that predict divorce with over 93% accuracy:

• criticism,

• contempt,

• defensiveness, &

• stonewalling.

With **couples I offer:**

• couples or marriage counselling,

• pre-marriage preparation,

• infertility support,

• support during the recovery from an affair,

• individual sessions along with joint sessions are the norm

Having moved to Leduc in 1989, and now living here as a business owner, educator, counselling therapist and clinical supervisor, I consider my investment in the community of great priority. We set our rates ‘lower’ in light of this, and we also offer a sliding scale in this practice along with an acute financial need rate. We trust that this practice of giving back will be a support to you as you navigate your time in therapy.

On my days away from the office I’m often cleaning, cooking, chasing after my kids (or the dog), and generally seeing to the business of life. Having kids later in life has been an utter joy and also an utter life changing event. I’m currently in the office M-T-W (long days) but I reply to emails outside of these hours as well. If you have questions you are welcome to connect at lightshopeinfoATgmailDOTcom

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my past and current clients for their trust in me, and to invite new clients to join me in therapy if what I’ve described seems a good fit for you. It would be my honour to work with you on your journey towards freedom.

Thank you for your trust in me, Chaz Wiebe
